Fish of the Month May 2004

Aequidens Rivulatus

Green Terror

Green Terrors are a very nice colourful fish from South America and are quite often confused with the blue acara. Unlike the blue acara the green terror is a more aggressive fish that need be handled with care as far as other tank mates are concerned.

Sexing
Males tend to develop the nuchal hump as they mature and are capable of breeding at a early age.

Water paramanters are not overly important for them to breed and they produce batches of 200 to 400 fry.

Tank Setup

For a breeding pair a tank size of 210litre/55gallons is recommend.

Whilst young, plants can be used but as they mature expect the plants to be uprooted.

Good filtration is also required as being typical large cichlids they do make a mess.

Feeding

Beefheart, cichlid pellets, worms, insects , basically they they will eat most foods.
