Featherfins are nice but i dont know if they would hold up against a jag.

I take it plecs aren't a consideration?  They would handle themselves better with the brute of a fish already in there.

for some reason i could never get plecos to  live wenever i get one they mysteriously die, besides i think most of em are pretty ugly anyways.

Pffft to that  :P

A good sized catfish thats not a Pleco that can handle living with a Jag....... a tough ask, my friend  ;)  I have a few thoughts, but need to double-check them before I give you false hope.  I will be back later with them.

Right, a list of possibles:

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=166  The always popular Striped Raphael.  Not the most visable catfish out there, but most likely able to handle living with a Jag.  Spiny enough to be a painful mouthful  ;D

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=428  No experience with this one, but at 11" it should be able to cope with living with a Jag

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=653  There is quite a variety in the "Blochii" group, most vary only in colour or pattern.  Not sure if they're just regional variations of the same fish or new, undescribed species

Now, I know you said you didn't like Pleco's, but I'm gonna include some of more "pretty" ones, just in case you change your mind  ;)

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=138  Galaxy Pleco, very pretty

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=177  Possibly a little bland for your tastes, but Gerry has one of these and so does Joe, and their's are both gorgeously patterned

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=191  Mango Pleco, I've seen some lovely specimins of these

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=195  Para Pleco.  Another pretty one

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=208  The Leopard Cactus.  I love the brilliant red tails on these guys, this is one I really, REALLY want myself

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/species.php?species_id=234  Titanicus Pleco.  Just a really cool name!!!

Well, that gives you a few ideas.  Any family out of those that you prefer?

I was going to suggest this one, it's a nice catfish and will defend it's self with a large mouth.

They don't have a common name.  If the lfs is any good, they should have them listed under their scientific name, Pimeldous ornatus.  There's a chance they might be listed as an Ornate Pim or Ornate Pimelodid, but be careful with that name, as it can be used for other, much larger Pimelodid's as well.

Good luck with finding one  O0

I also agree with the Gibby as I also have an Albino one myself, as he is my oldest fish and I love his toughness.  My Oscars and Severu,. dont even think about messing with him either, LOL.  Great Pleco! O0
