My Con!!!
« on: May 22, 2007, 04:19:10 PM »
I have a 40 gallon tank a 3inch Tiger (Albino) and a Convict 5 inches. Both are in separate tanks but will get put in together. If the tiger is not a good idea what other kind of fish can I put in with the Con. I don't want them to mate but I have seen a lot of colorful cichlid that I liked any ideas would help thanks.

I don't want another convict. I want other cichlid to make the tank more colorful. I know I cant leave a Oscar in a 40 gal tank. I have 3 right now and I want to put the albino in a different tank because he and the other two tigers always fight. I don't want no tension in my tanks. Most likely I will give the albino away and just stick with the con and friends. Any sugesstions ????? My other two tigers (Buck and Monster Molly) are in a 55 gallon with Laylow (albino). So I want to get my other tank started but I need to know what type of cichlid to put with a 4 inch convict?

Any smaller cichlid would be your best bet.  Pretty much anything in the Thorichthys genus or the cryptohero's genus would be worth a shot.  Rainbow cichlids would work.  Is your con a male or female?

1 EBJD (Cichlasoma Octofasciatum)
1 Salvini Cichlid (Cichlasoma/Nandopsis Salvini)
1 Royal Pleco (Panaque Nigrolineatus)
4 Clown Loaches (Chromobotia Macracanthus)
6 Bleheri Rainbowfish (Chilatherina bleheri)
8 Boesmani Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Boesemani)

Not sure if my con is male or female. how can I tell? Thanks for the advice for the fish Ill look into them. I just got a new 55gallon not the 40 gallon. Is there any changes on how many cichlids I can have in the tank?

sexing your con is not to hard normally. Females usually have orange on the belly and I've found rounder then males.  Males normally lack the orange belly  and at 4 inch should have a fatty hump on his forhead and long pointed anal and dorsal fins,  As far as the 10 gal change in size I don't think it makes that much difference cichlids like there space and if they don't have it, it can get ugly fast. But thats just my opinion.
125g Oscars, 55g Gold Severums, 20g Convicts, 50g Emptey
