Folks:
Several Items:
1) Thanks for the PM's and posts: really makes yall's favorite West Texas Redneck "feel very good".
Was the least that "I felt that I could do" as if not for the input which I have received on this forum I would probably have "junked this money pit (AKA my aquarium) many months ago".
2) I feel bad about the lost posts but this is what happened (and I going through this in "some detail" in order that yall will know why your posts were lost and will require reposting).
James (the feller who runs the computer company) actually spent approximately two days on the downloads.
The "old service provider" "cut us off twice".
We finally got the forum code downloaded and had to make some "hopefully minor" code modifications to run under the operating system which we "believed should have been seamless".
Then we started the databases' downloads on two computers.
One download was via Windows and the other via DOS from the FTP site which the "old service provider" had finally copied the forum to.
When we finally got the databases downloaded (this took 8 hours) and ascertained that the Forum was "probably working correctly" (this took another two hours) James brought it on line.
The options here were:
a) Bring it on-line and lose the posts now or
b) Wait until a period of little activity and download the databases again.
"In our brains" 2 was really not an option as after "the ordeal which we had just been into" we had no confidence "that we could ever get the databases downloaded again"
3) As I indicated minor code changes were necessary in order that the Forum "would run under the operating system".
James "actually made the changes" as my only knowledge of Php code was "reading the book" the last several weeks in anticipation of the migration.
If anyone has any problems (I really mean the absolute least problem) with the forum not functioning correctly please email me at home immediately.
I am asking this as we do not know that the code modifications which we had to implement, while causing you only a very minor problem, might cause another user "a bunch of grief down the road".
4) If anything on the forum is "lagging with respect to time" also please send me an email.
This item is not as critical as 3) above.
We have multiple levels of security set up on the server: two hourly sequential backups and will soon be implementing full daily backups.
(ie. we have gone here where few folks have gone before so if any "speed issues" with the forum arise please email me at home.)
5) Folks: once again I respectfully request that yall email me at home with "any problems". As Adam indicated James and I have spent very literally hundreds of hours on "this" and I believe that the forum now has the quality of hosts which would otherwise cost several $100's/month. I really, really do not want to have gone through this ordeal (and put one of my business associates through it also) and still have anyone having problems.
Once again:
Thanks very much for the appreciative posts and PM's.
