Topic: whats this fish??!!

can somebody please tell me what this fish is??!!! i bought 2 'cause i liked the colours but forgot to look at what they were called..!! (stupid i know!) like i said, ive got 2, ones slightly bigger than the other and is bullying the smaller one!!
Could one of you guys please tell me what it is and what they are like to have??!!!

Looks kind of like a firemouth to me

But all those spangles on the body and face make me kind of think its a hybrid with something else.  I could be wrong, maybe someone else will know the exact variety.

it could be an ellioti similar in shape  to the firemouths

its one of the last two links that stormbringer posted, definatly.... i must admit though i firtst thought it could be a firemouth but the glittery bits made me think twice!!!

its quite aggressive to the smaller one though.. any ideas why? is it just an aggressive fish? at the moment its in a tank with one smaller of itself, a salvini and a pleco... it doesnt go near the salvini or pleco but really bullies the smaller one

could be male and female  or both are same sex , cichlids seem to be less tolerant of their own type , maybe the larger 1 is sexually mature and the other isnt yet , you'l have to keep an eye on them tho just to make sure the small 1 doesnt get really hurt , you may even have to seperate them for a bit

Thorichthys maculipinnis   <---- may be used more often online try that on google.


There's soome confusion/arguments about that fish's proper name but maculipinnis seems to be used more often in print.

its a juewl cichlid.

It looks similar to a jewel but the spotting is in the right place.  On the jewel its up on the side about halfway down and on the fish pictured it is on the operculum.
