with a severum they can be a bit boisterous and are quite the little buggers with other fish.
firemouths are quite a good starter cichlid althought there is the easier convict cihlid and a very easy breeder. africans are a bit more maitenece than the american cichlids as you have to buy most at once so they dont get too teritorial. but my african knowlede is quite limited in that respect. and bog wood is very good for plec as part of the natural diet is to have bogwood in it. and it also lowers the ph slightly. so if you do intend to have africans poses a little headache in itself.
