Can I keep a featherfin catfish with a male midas that is 5" long now, in a 135 gallon tank. If not what else could I keep with a midas in a 135 gallon.

in my opinion, go buy an equal sized managuense and tell me if that midas cichlid is having anything to say. With such a big tank both could live together and the managuense has enough tougness in him to show that midas whats up in the fish world!

I kept a pleco with my devil for a while, but had to move the pleco because it was coming under some serious abuse.

it al depends on your midas' personality.  i was able to keep a male con, 4 clown loaches, 2 plecos, a pictus and 4 bala sharks in a 180 with a 10.5" female midas.  but when i removed all but the male con things changed.  the other fish were able to take enough attention off of the con for the midas to live with it.  i dont recomend a jag with a midas is that size tank.  but you may be able to get away with a few smaller but tough cichlids like cons, jewels, or salvini's.  as far as your featherfin only adding it alone may be a problem as the midas will focus on it as it will be the only other fish in the tank.  i would add the catfish 4-5 tin foil barbs or bala's and some botias or loaches to spread the aggression out.  hope this helps.

Regardless of what you do, mixing other fish and cichlids with midas is usually a recipe for disaster.  I hear it all day at work.  People come in and want to know why after 8-9 months their devil up and killed off the entire tank, after "they had been doing so well".  Yes there are lots of fish you can try but there arent any fish I can recommend

yeah pretty much right adam sooner or later they will kill all tank mates off if they are a normal midas. in rus' case is the same as mine though i have 3 of em in 1 tank all juv in 60 gal with an oscar and jd, the midas/red devil are 3 inch 4 inch and 5 inch the jd is 2 inch and o is 7 inch i also have a 125 gal tank on the side though bu ti keep em together because if i seperate them they tend to LOOK sad and not eat

I wouldn't recomend the jag either, mabey it would work if they grew up together, but if you added on now heres what would happen, the jag would get his ass kicked untill he got setled in then there would be constant fighting untill one of the fish died. I know people with 200gal aquariums with one devil in it who kills anything else in the tank, and thats in a 200gal
Please don't feed goldfish to your oscars, or there won't be enough left for me :(.

i think the midas should be kept alone, any tankmates will ether die or or kill the midas. you could also get a midas of the oppisite sex and breed him :)

Even a male and female midas together will eventually end up with the demise of one of them after a few batches of babies(usually the female gets killed in my experience,if shes not ready to breed again and male gets too eager)

Some tough fish this midas. I never had the opportunity to have one and after this i don't intend to unless I make a tank big enough for himself alone. I like aggressive fish but this is over my limit.

lol why...because i doubt ANY fish can be kept with them...then again im sterotyping...what i think would be better would be smaller chiclids to spread agression but not silver dollars (which im not sure of are fast or not) can be able to stand a little bit of a chance compared to perhaps a few good pecks from a con or salvini. i agree with rus and adam

lol...ok...yah silver dollars are very fast fish....they would be nothing more then a fish for the midas to chase....but hard to get ;)
