Lima shovelnose??
« on: January 25, 2009, 05:50:33 AM »
I think there was a recent post about a Lima shovelnose catfish. How big do they get, would they be compatible with O's, could I put 1 in a 55gal with 12inch O and 5inch striped Raphael?
This is getting expensive! I think I\\\'m gonna need a 2nd job to support my fish habit.

If I remember right, they get to be a nice size.  try a Google search.  ;)

And no your 55gal is already stocked.   Your Oscar will need that hole tank.  O0

A 55 gallon tank would be far too small a size for a Lima, I'm afraid to say  :-\  They are large fish, usually getting to somewhere between 18 and 24".  Here's a WC profile on them.

I have one in 100 gallon.

Planet catfish claim they get to 16.5" and are sociable for catfish and mine does get on with my Pimelodus Blochii.

If your tank is 18" wide and your willing to keep on top of the water I would say its doable but you'll need to watch which size you get as these are slender fish that a 12" O might fancy as a snack
