OK... So I arrived back home late on Easter Monday to find Mum guarding fry over her favourite shell.  Yep, they'd finally spawned.

It was too late to set up a fry tank so I left them over night. Sadly in the morning all I had left was an overturned shell and Mum perched on a rock looking exhausted.  Dad hasn't been seen for a week and a bit now so I'm a little concerned as to where he is hiding.  He's not been out for food or even shown up during the latest water change.  Mum on the other hand is perched on a rock, lying slightly cocked.  She swims to the surface for food but this looks a real struggle and it usually ends up with her plonked back on her rock after making the effort to grab some food.  All her fins look intact but she only appears to be using her pectoral fins to guide her, and it's a real effort.

So has the stress of spawning likely to have killed off Dad, or put him into hiding for a week and a half, and exhausted Mum that much that she struggles to swim? The tank's inhabitants are listed in my signature below if it helps? :-\

Yeah but the thing is the male is twice the size of the female and boss of the tank, so it's a bit strange he's gone missing.  She's not looking good at all today.  She's on her side on the top of a rock. There's no damage to any fins but she struggles to swim and just flops back down on her rock after a brief excursion.  She's still eating ok though...

If it's any consolation I have had fish hide in my tank for more than 2 weeks and then reappear. And I cleaned the tank within the 2 wek period and did not find it. It just reappeared on it's own.
This is getting expensive! I think I\\\'m gonna need a 2nd job to support my fish habit.
