« on: February 08, 2009, 05:24:58 PM »
COMMON NAME(S):

  Figure 8 Puffer

SCIENTIFIC NAME(S):

  Tetraodon biocellatus

ORIGIN:

  Asia, Mekong River basin

CAPTIVE LIFESPAN:

  15 years

DIFFICULTY LEVEL:

  Moderate

ADULT SIZE:

  3 inches (7.6cm)

TANK SIZE:

  15 gallons

DIET REQUIREMENTS:

  Feed ghost shrimp, snails, bloodworms, krill. Snails should be fed several times a week to prevent overgrowth of teeth. Varied diet is a must and any freeze dried or frozen foods should be presoaked in tank water and vitamins.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  This is a true brackish water puffer. They do well in a SG of 1.005-1.008. Their temperaments vary and as such it is recommended to keep them in a species tank. Being messy eaters, overfiltration is highly recommended and weekly water changes of 50% are a must. As with most puffers, the Figure 8 will do much better in a species only tank as they can be nippy. Figure 8 puffers have been known to live for 18+ years when kept in brackish conditions.
