Which Calvus is this? And would Afras be OK tank mates? Thank you in advance. 75gal, 40show, 2 10gal.

looks like a gold Altolamprologus compressiceps , similar species to Altolamprologus calvus

not a calvus, then? He's only 2.5 inches and I have had him/her for about 18 months.

nope but the compressiceps or comps as they are commonly known are similar to calvus and are often labeled as calvus

That is a real shame. :( I have been dealing with these people for a long time and always assumed they were the "experts" based on a lot of questions and research. :-\ Now I need a reputable dealer. Could they be easily mistaken for one another in the baby stage, like at one inch, and my guys took the dealers word? Will be returning the little ones ASAP! >:( Thanks to all for the expert opinion.

Hi wade4fish the gold face  compressiceps is a fantastic fish very similar in many ways to the calvus and the one you have, from the picture looks like a cracker. I would keep him/ her they are a lovely and interesting  fish.

Not paying $9 a pop for a fish that isn't what it is. He's a keeper, fo sho, and will keep him.

over here in Australia $9 is dirt cheap for comps/calvus , the regular variety's are easily 4 times that price if not more
