can i fit a jack dempsey ina 40 gallon breeder tank if i can what other fish can live with it

Welcome to the site O0

The ideal tank size for a JD is a 55 gal tank or larger.  In anything smaller they tend to become more aggressive as they get bigger.  IMO would not do it unless it was in the 40 solo and would up the water changes.  I know that's not what you wanted to hear, sorry.

  Yes, because Females also outgrow a 40 Gallon.  55 gallon and over for JDs.  :-\

In a 40 gal I would stick with the mid sized cichlids.

Agree 55 or larger for a JD.

125 Gal 1 Tiger O, 1 Jack Dempsey, 1 FM, 5 Silver Dollars
90 Gal 1 Lutino O, 1 FM, 1 Blue Acara, 1 Rainbow Shark

40 galls is really a tad tight for a JD male or female and would go with Gerry's recomendation of the mid sized cichlids  O0
