second try
« on: December 15, 2009, 09:43:29 AM »
Hi everyone. I did send a post introducing myself the other night but for some reason it didn't go through. Probably something i did wrong! Anyway here it is again.
I'm Dale, live in Truro a town in Cornwall, England. I have at the moment a Red Oscar, a pair of Blue acara, a Blue crayfish, a corn snake, and two children. Oh, and of coarse a wife, how could i forget her! Bless her.
I am soon to be doing a trade, my Oscar for two Gold Severum and a convict, so i can have a medium cichlid community tank. My main aquarium is 250ltr, i made the base and lid. The pictures i have are too big to post, which is annoying. the filtration is an external "Sun Sun 1200" which is far better than i expected it to be for the amount it cost.
I won't go on and leave it at that for now. Cheers!
I am in my own little world, but it's okay, they know me here.

Welcome to the WC Dale glad to have you here. It's pretty easy to re-size those pics so you can post them.

So the first one did post? Oh well.
I had a quick go at trying to figure out how to make the pics smaller but to be honest I'm more hands on practical than i am IT skills!  :( Although I'm getting better. if you could give me a clue on how to do it I'll try and get them posted tonight.
The Blue crayfish is in with the Oscar and they both leave each other alone, but the chap who I'm swapping the Oscar with will be having the Cray as well, I don't trust them with smaller fish.
Nice to meet you all by the way. Thanks for the welcome. O0

Thanks mate, nice to meet you. Just sorted the photos, should i put them on the DIY forum? here its anyway. It's prob looks really basic to you guys but I'm Quietly proud of it.
Made the base by cutting down two heavy load pallets from work and putting them back together, then just tarted it up really with some MDF and beading. The hardest part was making sure the pallets were level before i fixed them. The lid is just pine, MDF and Beading, but I've not finished it yet. Oh and that's my 2 year old lad, the reason why I have to clean the glass every night!  >:(

Great pictures of the tank and boy  O0

You might find you will get algae with the tank getting sun on it though, just something to watch for

It's actually not too bad for algae. It was something i was prepared for but it doesn't get a great deal of direct sunlight.
On the other side of the fire place is a larger space where the tv and kids toy chest is. My other half doesn't know about it yet but I'm eying it up for much larger tank ;)
Honestly those pics look nothing like the originals. Hey ho I'll do a better job next time! Thanks anyway.

Well, i won't be able to keep this one as well. I'd have to sell this one to fund the next. Also, I'd be looking at having the same dimensions as this one but 2ft longer, so 5ft by 1 1/2ft by 2ft. That's allot of water and i can hear her banging on about the water bill now! I'll just have to convince her that the new filter does such a good job that it means less water changes  ;)
I just want that WOW factor when people walk in. Everyone is impressed now when they come in, and people will always go and sit by the tank, but for me It's not quite enough. But then, that's the way it is with most of us isn't it? It could always be a bit bigger! The tank that is  :-\
