bio or more mechanical is up to you as both are better than carbon.

They add carbon as a chemical filter  and for new folk it would hide the errors by masking the smell from their mistakes.
Carbon has been in filters for years when not so much was known on how the cycle worked and filters just filtered dirt.

Now I think its just tradition and  sounds good on the box

Only thing I would add is its nice to have some fresh carbon standing by in case you ever need to add meds as its a good way of getting it out once the dose period is past (hope you never need it though)

Imo having carbon in the filter as standard is a money generator for them as it needs replaced regularilly , in a healthy tank theres no real need for carbon but it is usefull if you have medicated the tank and need to remove the meds or if something toxic got in tank

I put "hears" instead of "here's", plonker. And to think I want to be a writer!  ::)
Don't push it, this is already an achievement for me!  ;D
I will post an up to date one, just I preferred it like this to be honest, wish I'd never changed it.
I want to get some light weight decor so that I can build it up at the back and give some higher caves, slate is just too heavy. What I would really like is one of those 3d back grounds, they look cool, but cost a bit much at the mo  :'(

today I took the smaller Sev out and he's in the spare tank on his own now. Been hiding away for a few days, not even venturing out to feed because of the larger one always chasing him, so I'm going to feed him up, and hopefully introduce him back once he's put on some bulk. Also decided to introduce the bog wood which I've been soaking in case I changed my mind. I'm allot more happy with how it looks now.
Also tried taking pics of fish, but my camera is pants so apologize for the quality.  :)
