Young Cichlid Keeper
« on: February 05, 2010, 12:55:09 AM »
Hi, I'm new here, I am a 14 year old from Australia who has 4 tanks currently:
#45 Gallon Planted containing a mixed community  - I have larger Tetras, Corys, Bristlenose cats, Kribs a Festive Cichlid, a small firemouth and 2 Green Severums as well as some other misc. fish
#A 10 Gallon livebearer breeder tank containing mollies
#A 20 Gallon tank containing a Large Bristlenose, 2 blue acaras (which I will be attempting to breed soon) 2 Jewel Cichlids and a cheeky Purple Spotted Gudgeon
# A 45 Gallon Saltwater tank cycling at the moment.

I work part time at an aquarium in East Geelong, Vic. called "Reef and River Aquatics" I earn some money and put most, if not all of it towards my fish. The shop deals in Goldfish, Tropical Fish, Marine Fish, Corals and invertebrates, Snakes and other reptiles/amphibians so i have a lot of work cut out for me!

I have so many questions that they will be overwhelming so I won't start until my next post!  :D

Bye!!!

Thankyou so much everyone, i feel so welcome here!!!In a way, i feel intimidated even speaking to hobbyists with so much knowledge and experience, its kinda scary!!! To Gerry ( or anyone else who knows) what is that fish on the far right? And to Callen- I still have to put fish in my SW tank and I'm going to put my first fish in this Saturday, what do you think a good first fish would be?

Thanks everybody!!!!

The Salvini is the one I meant. How much do you know about them- Temperament, Size etc.    Would they be ok in a 100 gallon?

That one is a female and she gets about 6" and is quiet an aggressive little bugger.

Males get to 8" I believe.

Salvini are an aggressive species and need to be housed with others who can hold their own or are much bigger.

100 gallons is fine, but if adding tank mates just be aware of the aggression
