The wife got 10 gallon tank and 2 Oscars...
« on: March 08, 2010, 11:59:19 AM »
I was out of town on business this past weekend only to come home to a new 10 gallon fish tank with a couple 2" oscars.  First problem is obviously the tank wasn't cycled properly and its too small for those fish.

My son is already in love with the fish so what are the chances these things will survive the next week? Once i found this site I figured you guys could help me.

Feed sparingly and change about 75% of the water every other day.  This should give you some time to get a different tank.  THe good news is with only a 10 gallon tank, changing 75% isn't that much.

Do you want to keep both fish?  If so I'd shoot for about a 90 gallon tank.  A 75 gallon might be enough but I always like to aim high.  Good luck.

numerous Giant Danio's
1 Boesmani Rainbowfish

Welcome O0

Water changes are the only way to buy time until you can get the larger tank and reduced feeding for now will keep the water from going sour quicker.

Tank size I'm with Ezekial, filtration is tank volume x 10 for HOB's, tank volume x 5 for canisters (these are minimum recommendations).

feel free to ask anything else you need to know or anything your not sure of

welcome to the site  O0
i would recomend a 90 gallon as well , water quality is going to be your main  fight with the 10 gallon

Agree. I would go straight for a 90 gal. From my experience, if you go for a bit smaller you'll only decide in not so long that you want or need something bigger, so will also save you a bit of money in the long run! Yet you'll still might want a bigger tank at some point once you fall in love with those O's. Becomes an itch that just has to be scratched  ;D
