OMG! neef help quick
« on: February 17, 2010, 07:20:24 AM »
Since my firemouth died my jd has become super aggresive toward my gt. so badly that his tail is severly split. the only other tank i have is a 25 gal w/ 4 dwarf gourami, 4 rasboras and 6 zebra danios. can i put the gt in there to save his life without him trying to eat my girlfriend's fish?

I would say it's your only option mate if he's getting his ass kicked. how big is the GT?

About 3'' and the jd is only about a half in bigger. probably knows better than to mess with the 6'' oscar

He's doing what cichlids do best, picking on the weakest.
It's a massive risk to put him in the other tank. Anything lying around that you can use or make into a hasty tank divider?
Some sort of plastic mesh or something that you can pop in the tank to keep them apart?

I would say GT if the JD is on one. try either if it doesn't work with the JD pop him the other side.  :)

Just a thought. make sure filtration and air supply can get to both sides. Good luck.

Well it's in all be it temporary till i come up with something better. oscar keeps looking at it like '' what the hell is this?'' and the jd is steadily looking for a way around it.

Either fish will eat your girlfriends fish given enough time.  The divider is the best option.  I'd keep the O and the JD on the same side personally.  CIchlids will often pick on weaker, beat up fish so sticking the beat up GT with the O might result in the O taking a swipe at him.

1 EBJD (Cichlasoma Octofasciatum)
1 Salvini Cichlid (Cichlasoma/Nandopsis Salvini)
1 Royal Pleco (Panaque Nigrolineatus)
4 Clown Loaches (Chromobotia Macracanthus)
6 Bleheri Rainbowfish (Chilatherina bleheri)
8 Boesmani Rainbowfish (Melanotaenia Boesemani)

Well to be honest it wasn't a tight fit. almost but not quite and both figured out a way around it so i took it back out and put more places to hide in the tank. seems to be working ok for now as the gt still looks better than when i brought him home from lfs where he had gotten prettu tattered by all the other gt's he was in with. figure i'll just keep a close eye on things since i'm having water difficulties at the moment and spending much time checking things out and doing water changes anyway. thanks for asking, you people here are so nice.
