I see the pictures.

Has he been digging a lot?  Is he eating well, acting ok?  How long has he had it?

Haven't noticed any digging. he's eating good, seems alert and healthy in all other aspects. water parameters  are ammonia .3 nitrate 10 nitrite 0 ph 7.5 chlorine 0 hardness 75 alkalinity in the moderate range. His lip has been this way for approximately a month and doesn't seem to be going away, but not getting any worse.

Your test reads ammonia so you need to bring them down to 0.

Thinking your GT has is a blister...could be from digging or rubbing.  As long as your water is pristine it should heal on it's own.  You could add epsom salts as this will draw out any fluid build up.  Add 1 tbls for every 5 gals.  It's a good sign that he is eating and acting normal.  If that changes let us know and please keep us posted.

Ok i sure will.  thank you.  i knew the ammonia was creeping up on me. i usually do weekly water changes of  25% to 50% every saturday or sunday but missed this past weekend due to my mother going to the hospital, and since i work nights and must sleep during the day, it's very hard to get to during the week. but as soon as i can, i'll be on it.

Your welcome :)  Hope your mom is ok.

Figured you had a good reason...I knew you keep a pretty pristine tank.  IMO would up your water change to 70-80%.

missing water changes shouldn't make ammonia creep up, but nitrates would. if ammonia is creeping up your a little short on bio filtration.

Well, i don't think that's a blister on his lip. it's still there. hasn't changed a bit. no better and no worse. i thought maybe it was an injury from defending himself against the jd. but since he has a good place to call his safe home  i don't think that's it either. i'm wondering if it could just be another defect, when i first got him i didn't notice until it was too late that his right gill plate is deformed. so maybe he just had bad genes to start with. i'm going to post some updated pics on facebook if anyone would care to take a look and let me know what you think.
