Jaguar owner roll call?
« on: July 17, 2010, 08:21:04 PM »
Any current Jaguar owners care to share their ownership experience? I have one that is about 5-6 inches long. I'm on the fence trying to decide to find another, or keep him/her single.

Welcome, I do not have a jag either. I hear they don't play well with others, even of their own species.
This is getting expensive! I think I\\\'m gonna need a 2nd job to support my fish habit.

Thanks for the replies. Not too many owners out there? I am definitely thinking about purchasing another, but I'm out on the west coast and haven't found any jags for sale locally.  I did find a shop on the east coast, but I'm not too sure about ordering the fish and having it delivered only to die if my jag doesn't want a mate. Anyone know of some well run fish stores on the west coast that have good variety and delivery services?

Jags may fight each other, male and male will fight, female and female MAY be okay together in a very large tank. Sometimes a male and female will get along IF they decide to be a breeding pair. As adults their aggression increases and they get very aggressive. If you want to try it's your choice but they need a 120gallon or bigger. They are one of the more aggressive cichlids once they mature. As juveniles they are rather shy but they all of a sudden puberty hits and they go on a killing rampage.

I have four jags and if you want more you will need a pair or a huge tank for them to live in peace together

Also I got mine from Jeff rappes and I live in Idaho and they arrived fine. Just be sure to have a second tank ready if it doesn't work. How big is you current JAG and tank?

SERIOUS JAG AND OTHER PARACHROMIS OWNER/BREEDER HERE.  O0 I KEEP A PROVEN PAIR OF JAGS IN A COMMUNITY 225G. THEY HAVE EVEN BRED IN THERE WITH GRAMMODE PAIR, RED TIGER PAIR, GREEN TIGER PAIR GOLD TIGER PAIR, BOCOURTI, FENESTRATUS, LOSELLI PAIR, LA CEIBA PAIR, AND OSCARS. NO DEATHS OR FIGHTS IN 3 YEARS. THERE MAY BE A OCCASIONAL FIGHT OVER FOOD OR CHANGING OF TERRITORY BUT NOTHING SERIOUS. I USE LOTS OF DRIFTWOOD TO BREAK UP DIRECT LINES OF SIGHT. I HAVE A FEW CLIPS ON YOUTUBE. LOOK UNDER "UNCLERUCKUS" ;). RIGHT NOW IM CURRENTLY BREEDING MY JAGS ON ONE SIDE OF A 180 WITH RED TIGER SPAWNING ON THE OTHER SIDE. IVE GOTTEN 3 SPAWNS IN 3 MONTHS. SO I MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT. I JUST CANT WAIT FOR THE RED TIGERS TO GET 1" SO I CAN MOVE THEM ON OUT.
