Howdy from Eastern Oregon
« on: October 03, 2010, 01:09:16 PM »
Hey everybody! Gerry mentioned I might know a few of the folks around here and by golly he's right. It might seem to a few like I fell off the face of the planet, and in some ways that has some truth to it.. Anyhow, it's nice to see some familiar names/faces, and for those who don't know me, here's the Reader's Digest Condensed version bio. I've been keeping fish about the half the length of time it takes to get your name on a Smucker's Jelly jar. My wife and I own a small pet shop in Eastern Oregon, been in business for about 7 years now. I keep all manners of freshwater tropicals, but my specialty are Discus, mostly wild caught but over the last few years I've been dabbling with producing tank bred strains, maybe even a new one, but staying ahead of the curve has been problematic. Well then again, my latest/oldest obsession is with plecos, I've been successful with producing L144s with the biggest mustache and beard you've ever seen (OK, I'm having a proud papa moment LOL). We have 5 children and 10 grandchildren, and yes our home is too small during the holidays. And yes, most of my children can name fish in Latin, still working on the youngest grand-daughter (but she's only two, so I've been told by my wife to not get my expectations too high LOL).

I'm glad to have found y'all, and hope to come around a little more often.

Hey thanks for the warm welcomes everybody! Yep, I'm still alive, and back just in time to get silly busy again, but I'll try to poke my head in a little more often. We're moving the store, this time we bought ourselves a building! NO MORE MOVING after this one. Much better location, better visibility, and a little bigger to boot! But as you can imagine, the next couple of weeks is going to be just nuts. Moving the fish dept. is what always scares the poo out of me, but we're making good progress on all the prep work. I'll keep y'all posted.
