Depends on the size of the Discus and the aggression of the Syn  :-\  It is a Vieja, after all............

He's never gave me any trouble even when I put in the small Nichosi. How do you think he would fair with the temp rise?

Discus are around 3 - 4"

done some research and found this

Quote
Paratheraps synspilus is not a terribly aggressive cichlid and rarely bothers any other fish that can not be eaten. They do fine in groups in the aquarium.

Quote
Water temperature measured by me was between 24 and 28? C

Discus at 28c just now

this is my main issue I think
Quote
pH ranges from neutral up to around 8 and water harness from soft around 3?KH and 3?DH

We have very soft water with readings under these, but the Ph for discus is better under 6.6.

Thoughts guys

Not kept them yet myself Gerry, but I thought modern thinking was that if you find a local breeder you are morew likely to get a match with their water and won't have to make too many adjustments.

I bought my HMA filter specifically so I can have the water how I needed it for the discus.  With our water so soft as well, all I have to do is remove the heavy metals, etc rather than go RO.  With that done my pH sits at around 6.

not adjusted mine and was talking to a local lfs who used to breed them and he says as long as Ph stays below 7.5 they will be fine. my fish shed is sitting 6.6 and the house tank 6.0 so I should be OK.

They seem fine, eating well, coloured up and actually moving about the tank. ( maybe I shouldn't tempt fate)

They're a bunch of cuties Gerry, congrats! Personally, I've never had any luck mixing discus with anything other than dither fish. I don't think the Synspilus would bother them a bit, but the discus don't know that. It's not worth taking the chance of upsetting them now that they're settling in nicely IMHO.
A discus is like a pretty girl wearing REALLY expensive jewelry. "Wanting" is often a far greater thing than "having"
