Problem with turning filter off is that the bacteria for your cycle will die off too.

Can you turn the flow down or redirect the flow to disperse the current

With the hot spell I'm having at the moment the temperature probably wouldn't be much of a issue. I did consider the bacteria in the filter but thought it would be o.k for about an hour.

The other thing that has become apparent lately, is how different they look now. Not so much the facial markings but certainly the fins. The males' fins are much longer and shaped differently. I'll need to find out how they are. At what age do they become "full blow adult/mature" and how long do they live roughly?

All help, answers, opinions and advice appreciated, as always.

Stuart.

My fish are getting ready to lay again, for the 12th or 13th time, I have had some progress though. Although the last batch still only lasted 2 days. When I first noticed them I thought some had already gone white. Then I realised they were white because of the sperm.

Interestingly when they did start eating the eggs, they ate the fertilized or non white ones first!

Just thought I'd update you all.

Won't be that, it fertilises the eggs and disperses in the water, white eggs are unfertilised eggs.

Have you had wrigglers yet?

Welcome to the wonderful world of spawning fish as ditzy, stupid and brainless as Severums  ;D ;D ;D  I think I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, the only reason I got fry was because they got sucked up the filter intake into the sump as either eggs or wrigglers  ::)  Without that, I would never have managed to get anythinhg out of my two pairs.

No, no wrigglers yet. I'm on holiday soon. When I get back I might set up my 60 litre to see if I have more luck taking them away. I just need to find a space for it!

The last batch of eggs looked more promising as I never saw any white ones. Having said that they were still all eaten within 2 days but they must have eaten the white ones first if there were any.

Unfortunately, the real bad news is, after a day or two of my male eating and then spitting out his food, he then went two days of not eating at all and then this morning he died :'(.
