Well it's according to the nature of the bigger oscars.  If you introduce the bigger ones to the smaller ones then it might work out.  Don't put the smaller fish in the big ones fish tank because the big ones would claim it their territory..hope that made sense.

It is possible that you will have problems, every fish is differant some have no problems accepting new tank mates whiles others will brutalize them.  I think if you introduce the larger oscar into a tank that already contains the smaller ones their chances would increase... likely if you dump the small ones into the bigger ones territory it will be lights out.  How long is this temporary setup going to be in effect and how large is the tank?  Those are the real key questions that need answers  I think.

I read lots of posts like this, then I wonder to myself:  how is it the lfs gets away with overstocking there tanks with various different types of fish?  I realize that they won't be in those tanks for long and there are some casualties (never have seen a lfs without at least a few dead fish), but none-the-less, how is it that people don't make a stink about the lfs over stocking tanks, but if someone has a 2 O's in a 55g people scream bloody murder?  Just curious  ;)

btw, I have ONE oscar in a 125g, so I am of the opinion that the more tank the better.

Matt to answer your question simply it is this.  At a LFS they are ultimately trying to make money.  If you have only 2 fish in a 55 gallon tank you will lose money, and go out of business, so they do things to make it more profitable, and profitable rarely means benificial to the fish.  Also you can do things for 2 weeks that would kill a fish if done for 2 years simply based on the fact that you arent doing it long enough to kill the fish.  Many times the fish are stressed from the moving and transportation and are over stocked so aggression is limited, however take that fish home for 3 months and you will see a completely differant animal.  Also LFS's usually get juvinile fish, and juvi fish are not as aggressive usually as adults so you can over stock htem with success, but if you let those same fish stay there for 6 months you would lose virtually all of them.  Basicly it boils down to this... you can not do what the LFS does not unless you are turning the fish over every 2 weeks.  And I have to say from experience... there is a huge amount of die off unfortunately, you just only see the tip of the ice berg, I can only imagine what it must be like for LFS that dont maintain their tanks  :o  Never look to a LFS setup for pointers on how to keep your fish!
