i'm not real big on em ::)
i'd rather have a nice natural Trimac or a Synspillum, they look just as nice and you can be happy in the fact that it's a natural fish.
just my 2 bob.

I tend to agree with forrest. I mean how pretentious does one have to be to believe that they can improve on nature's work? Just an opinion.

They are ruining new world cichlids.

To many different crosses/versions

you can now find trimac, texas, red devils (and more) that are hybrids, if they don't sell under the "flowerhorn" name they're  on sale later under the name of the species they closest resemble - for people who like them they're  fine, but the way they  can (and do) pollute pure strains makes me not like them
I've had a fish or two

I agree, they are a discrace(sp), no man should ever try to manipulate(sp) nature in the way these people have. I am fully against them. I feel the same way about these fish as I would a dyed fish.

As stilllearnin said, because of people like the ones who make these fish, it makes it very hard to find a pure bred fish. It underminds the integrity of today's cichlids (Red Devil and Midas are the best examples of this).

They are Hybrids and if ur going to keep one and not breed it I would get one
I have a wonderful red one and its great, at the end of the day fish are there for your amusement so i see nothing wrong with them only if u breed them keep them to yourself or use them as feeder fish

thats a toughie...id like to see both points of view. con kid is right that this might get out of hand and we may end up losing full breeds. aussie has a point as well. you may say its cruel to make hybrids but why is it not cruel for goldfish to be mass produced just for feeders? or those rosy red minnows? with all the kinds of goldfishes i wouldnt be shocked to find a lot are mixed. i think (no offense) you all seem to pick favorites in fish and think its automatically cruel when something is done to them. if you dont like them then dont get them i guess.

I personally see no problem with them as long as you dont sell them under any other name, like it or not the flowerhorn is here to stay

Thanks for all your opinions, aussie is right, they seem to be here for the long run,i agree with the fact that they shouldnt breed with any true breed,as a matter of fact even though i own one i dont believe they should breed at all anymore because you dont know what you will end up with. They are a very colorful fish that seem to have a great personality and are pretty smart, just waiting to see how this guy turns out when he is fully grown,i heard they can become pretty aggressive. :o ::)

by agressive you mean a big fish is hungry and eats a small guppy naturally....or one that likes to pick on others with no reason? oorrrr one that protects fry or a territory? lol a lot of fish are agressive its all dependent on that 1 fish and its personality

Well, it's a cross between an RD and Trimac, I'm pretty damn sure it's gonna be mean as hell.

I've seen some beautiful Flowerhorns, but I veiw them like a mutt you bring home from the dog pound your not real sure what its going to grow up to be might get lucky might not, if you go to reputable breeder your pretty darn sure what your getting size and temperment wise. Just my 2cents

IMO this Mass anti-Flowerhorn hysteria sounds to me as if it was as bad to breed diferent cichlid sub-species, as it is to mix the human race, asians with caucasians, africans, etc., i don't see a problem, the problem i see is that the FH are way over priced
