Actually, have to agree with you... on the whole..
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - so I probably wouldn't like the fish you mentioned either... but if someone likes them, they may as well keep them.
There seems to be a conflict of interest between those who just want a nice looking fish and those who want the 'real thing', to keep and breed.
For many, a 'flowerhorn' is just a nice looking fish, they know little about breeding etc, and probably couldn't care less about genetic purity.. Sad, but true.
So 'breeders' 'breed' suitable fish to cater to this market, call them whatever will get them bought, and make lots of $$..
