Buying Electric Yellow Hap.s
« on: June 30, 2003, 05:18:37 PM »
At least I think they are hap.s. Anyway, I am buying some, but waiting for my 29's pH to go up. Just though Id let you know just in case anyone objected to it. :) Oh, and I also wanted to know what temp. they need for breeding, the right pH and stuff. I am getting 3 pair, and I was wondering if thats enough to have a mated pair somewhere in there. ???

They arent haps. they are labidochromis, haps are from lake victoria. ele yellows dont pair off. I would say get like 5 of them for a 29 (try to get more females then males) pH around 8.0 and temp around 78-82 and they will breed.

Well, I went and got the fish today. But the guy at the pet store said it would be near impossible to mate them in a 29 because its too small. But I got a pair of the yellow labidochromis caeruleus, which I hope are male and female, but I think they are male and male. :-\ I also got a pair of Pseudothropheeus demasoni, which Im very sure are male and female.

dont ever listen to those idiots at the fish stores. i think a 29 is too small for demasoni cause they are much meaner then ele yellows and stay just alittle bit smaller. i have bred ele yellows in a 20 gallon before so dont listen to that idiot trying to sell you more expensive fish or bigger tank or whatever. 5 ele yellows would do fine and you would get males and females for sure. also ele yellows are much easier to sex then demasoni. read my article on ele yellows http://www.cichlidinfo.com/articles/view_article.php?id=1

Crap, oh well. If they get too big, I could take them out and sell them back to the pet store.

The male Pseudotropheus is the definate owner of the tank. Then theres the bigger male yellow lab, which comes in second, then the smaller male lab, then the female Pseudotropheus seems like the tanks bitch. ::)
