A new forum suggestion
« on: January 08, 2004, 04:01:51 PM »
Hey guys~n~gals what would you think of having a product review forum?  We all have our opinions on filters, heaters, lighting, food, decor, substrate, yadda yadda yadda.

I think it would be a good idea.  Now some of you are probably thinking, that's what the general aquaria forum is for.  Well, no.  I don't think it would be productive or successful to post reviews of this nature in the gen aq forum.

Nah...that's what chit/chat and tank hardware is for. :P

I think it would be good, but like I've said before, there just isn't enough regular posters to keep a forum like that running.

Hey Ck,

I see what you're saying `bout it being a forum that wouldn't be as active as others.

It would be a lot easier to read the reviews in their own forum rather then surfing through everything else to find them.

Hm, I'd go with Mark ... the tank hardware forum would be your best bet to post on/look for such stuff. And then there is the search function, and it even works ;)

Just did a quick browse of the tank hardware forum.  I did find some reviews, but not many.  I still argue that having a seperate forum would be better, it would be easier to find the reviews.

I agree that it would be easier to find the reviews...but, there won't be many of them. I just don't think there will be that many people writing reviews.

Although, feel free to prove me wrong. ;D

I think it's a great idea.  It's not the same as General Aquaria... so many things get posted in there that reviews would be lost.  In a Review specific forum, Only Review posts should be started there.  People can then respond to each post with further comments or questions.

I have seen this in action in another forum... and I like it. I'll confess to going to another site for reviews now.  I don't like to spend a lot of money on stuff without some kind of recommendation from someone who's used the product.

Perhaps instead of regular posts, the original review must be actually approved, prior to posting by an admin type, and this could keep things cleaner.  Reviews should be in depth, descriptive and pros and cons listed if possible.

I'd be willing to write reviews for all of the aquatic products that I use.  That should get at least a dozen or so posts alone.
