My femal is always hiding now is something wrong with her? When she eats she swims real fast and gets the food and goes to the back of the tank and them comes and gets more food

yeah, should be. if they had eggs at the LFS thats a good sign. you just have to play the waiting game i guess.

I would just leave them together to sort it out,  thats what I have always done.  They get very aggressive towards each other during the mating ritual,  that is how they show each other that they are worthy I guess...Brian

hey
i agree with brian i usually leave the pair in there and the sort things out by themselves unless the male beats her up . My cons breed every 3 weeks after each batch of babies are taken out or if the fry get eatin , so dont be in to much of a hurry lol and i also used to have the problem that my male and female that didnt get along i just got a 3" female for a 2" male now they the same size and they dont fight at all  ;)

only if u want to i feel that since i got the bigger female i got less problems and a way bigger spawn . eventually the male would get to the same size maybe bigger in no time . ( im not saying that u cant use the same pair that n have) i also got a bigger female bcos every time my cons used to spawn the male would end up beating the smaller female so u can actually decied im just putting things in ure head lol

Well my cons are like everyone elses breeding
about every 4 weeks, so the thing to do is
I take the male out and put him in another tank
for about a week after spawning I have a female
that likes to perform hate crimes on all the other
fish so i keep it like that and after about a week
I reintroduce the male, yes stressful, but she killed
one of her mates before and almost killed the second
one to before I got to him.

i would just wait a month and see what happens.  if she is hiding she might be checking out areas to lay a nest.  i would not do anything that will disrupt the chemistry that the two have already created.  i have breed cons before and sometimes it takes a couple of weeks to even a month for them to do anything.

because cons are so easy to breed if you give them time, and are sure that you have both sexes, they will mate!

good luck and let me know if there are any other questions.

if i were you, i woud change the water and turn the temp up to upper 70's to maybe 80 degrees this will encourage the first mating but after that it will come every two weeks like clock work.  you will not have to do anything.

she just stays in the front of the tank and hides in the middle of the plant. The male now looks like a plain boring fish because u cant hardly see his stripes. They are never in the claypot now. The male hides in the middle of the other plant thats in there.

they are most like having a fight.  you know how couples can be  :)  i would just give it time and keep an eye on them.  if they seem too stressed then i would seperate them.  just use your best judgement.  and keep us up dated.   ;)
