GTs tend to be more aggressive than JDs and slightly more expensive, though neither are particularly expensive.  They get to be about the same size.  I got a GT for $7 and have seen JDs for $3.  They are great fish, but be aware you may have to remove the otehr fish if you get a vicious one.

not sure about your lfs. round here convicts are very inexpensive, ussually a couple of dollars (au) firemouths range from about $10 to $20 (au). i've never bought a gt or jd so not sure on them, id imagine they wouldnt be overly expensive though.

Jewels defend themselves well too. My Jewel turns red when she is defending her territory and even takes on my larger Sev, Dempsey and Oscar.

Severums are fairly less aggressive and might work, as would a larger Blue Acara or Salvani. Just an opinion. Hope that helps! Good luck!

You should'nt pay more than $15 U.S. total for those three fish IMO. Even that is a bit on the high side in my area.

I agree,   GT's are more aggressive than JD's are.  I had some bad experiences with GT's.

I woudl still stick with the JD. Thoug some of them can have nasty tempers, they are still relatively easy to get used to putting up with tank mates... And well, they're just so beautiful!  :D

We have the power to do any damn fool thing we want to do, and we seem to do it about every ten minutes.

I agree.  JD's are beautiful but so are GT's.  I have had bad experiences with GT's too and haven't had any problems with my JD.  I'd go with the JD.  If you buy them small you should be able to get it for $3-4.

I would keep going with weekly water changes.  Once they reach full size or close to it you may have to increase that.  That is way down the road though.

Will do , the first night they already were comfortable enough to eat. They all got some pellets! That made me very happy. I will post some pics of the tank in a few days!!
