Plecos and Oscar do battle . The Oscar usually wins, but the Pleco does get his shots in and won't back down.

I tend to be careful about the common plecos now. I had a sailfin that grew to monstrous proportions and would no longer fit in any of my tanks. Eventually I had to give it to one of my friends who has a large enough tank, and once again, with the extra growing space, he got unbelieveably fat and long, made an incredible mess and so she got rid of him  :'(.

Now I tell most people to splurge a little and get themselves a bristlenose or another fancy pleco that will do a terrific cleanup job but whose growth is usually restricted to 6 or 8 inches. It's heartbreaking when you try to do the best for your pets and it kicks you in the rear.

We have the power to do any damn fool thing we want to do, and we seem to do it about every ten minutes.

Welp, got the pleco, my Oscar done ripped his fins!  Got some Danio things too and my O killed em all!  My Pleco (Balou) Just hides under the strainer on my filter. He's about 3 inches and my O is about well almost 6 inches now.  Think they will be fine though bc my O dont pick on him as much now that he killed thouse danio things.

Well I'm glad to hear Balou is going to be ok. I normally avoid those situations by getting plecos that are going to be the same size of its' tankmates. It's easy to find large plecos in stores since people always take them back after they find out they'll outgrow a 10 gallon tank.  ;D

Yea it worked for me, getting a larger pleco, They have had the small scraps but being the same length as the O, it works out. A lot better than the gold nugget pleco I used to have, it always hid  as far as I know, never came out even with the lights off.

I think I"m gonna get rid of my pleco.  HE is LITTERALLY  scared shitless of my Oscar.  He shits more than he cleans, it's really anoying.  He hides most of the time.  Should I just give him more time to adjust?

It will take the pleco some time to adjust to his new environment especially when he is harrassed by the O.  Once he has settled in he will defend himself more and likely be out more.  They do tend to do-do alot especially during growth spurts (or at least that's what is seems in my experience).  I would give him some time.  Like a month or so.  That will allow him to acclimate to the new environment and to get used to the routine of feeding.   With routine and repetition they learn pretty quickly.

Your pleco needs a cave or two to hide in - where the oscar can't get to him.  Also, I wouldn't expect the pleco to keep your tank clean. He may eat some of the algae, but most don't eat all of it.

I don't have a pleco to clean - I have one because I like them and think they are interesting fish.

I've found the secret to my over crowding, is lots of buildings and plants. They love having their own place to run to. It also makes the tank look so interesting and beautiful. I spoil with variety of foods so nobody feels left out. I swear they are all so happy together. Wish they could talk.
