Yea finally cons babies
« on: September 13, 2004, 11:19:03 AM »
I noticed today when I came home from school my con had babies swimming around her well more like jumping from place to place around her.  LOL. Im so excited and I just can't hide it.  she has them at the back right bottom corner of the tank.  How do I get food down there.  Also will they eat flakes that have fallen to the bottom of the tank.

If you are gonna leave the fry in the same tank as the parents. Don't worry about feeding the fry.
Just feed the parents like always and they will take care of the fry

yep it will all fall into place! i'm pretty sure my female con was a first timer because she is pretty small but she acts like its her 100th time... you will observe  ;D really neat to watch

but don't worry about feeding them just throw in some flake and whatever you normally feed your cons

in most cases the parent\s will know what to do. I don't want you to be shocked but, first time parents will sometimes freak out and eat the fry.

As far as feeding I always remove the convict fry as soon as they are free swimming, never feed them anything but, crushed flakes. Cons are not very demanding at all

i feed mine crushed flakes and take them out after a month, slows down their breeding this way.

LOL! It's a Con epidemic! We're all mommies and daddies at the same time, all over the world!!!!
So, the parents feed their babies? Till how old, when they can feed themselves?

The con fry are fully able to take care of themselves as soon as they use up the egg sac

Cool! How long after they hatch, usually, before they use it up?

so when do you actually see them swimming around in the open? I still don't see mine. If the parents are hiding them, they're doin' a freakin' good job!!

No, I'm not sure. The parents are still SUPER territorial, but I'm affraid to dig around incase I squish 'em! I haven't seen them since the day I accidentally found them.
