Hi all,

Now that I'm back into the hobby this is a fish I want to keep and breed. After some research I came across these little guys'
The Honduran Redpoint. They are very beautiful so I ordered myself 6 of them. They were very hard to find.
From my research, I think this one is possiblly the most beautiful of them all.

Here is a link to a little story about them

http://www.cichlidae.com/tanks/t060/default.php

The ones I am getting on Wednesday are only 3/4" long. A couple of questions if I may.

How fast will they grow? Will crushed merdium Hikari pellets and crushed flakes suffice?

Last but not least, I have an Aquaclear 100 (500 gal hr wide open) Will this suck these little ones in never to be seen again? or should I pipe it down to low flow?

Pheuu, all that in one breath lol.

Thanks in advance

Gavin

Newfie, the Honduran Red Point is a separate, undescribed species not to be confused with Cryptoheros nigrofasciatus.  They will not grow as large (4" usually max for males, 3" for females) and are not as aggressive.  They will still readily defend their nest/eggs/fry though.  I got mine at 1" or slightlly less back in Feb. or March and the males I got are now in the 3-3.5" range, and the females are in the 2.5-3" range.  Crushed flakes will work for a while, but you can also get fry crumble foods which I think makes them more readily accept pellets as they get bigger.  I get all my foods now from www.kensfish.com and even with shipping I pay much less than I ever would at an lfs. :)  Here's a pic of one of my Male Hondurans...he's now guarding fry. :D

by the way, I voted marbled as my favorite con variation, but I also love the black striped as well. :)

Thanks Freakey Jason

Got a lot to catch up on for sure ;D

I went to Kens site and that surley is a better alternative than the lfs. There are a lot of different types of foods to choose from.

What is the best crumble to choose from of about 1/2" long HRP? I will be receiving 7 Hericthys bartoni on Tuesday as well and do you you have a

suggestion food wise to feed these fellows as well (Kens' of course) They are about 1" to 1.5" long.

Maybe you could suggest one that would be good for them both. I have 2 8 oz bags of Hikari medium cichlid pellets unopened, Wardley freeze dried

worms and freeze dried bloodworms. Any help is appreciated.

I really like the picture of you little guy by the way.

Seems they grow pretty quickly.

Ken's has 2 different types of cichlid crumble and I couldn't tell you the difference between the 2.  I beleive I got crumble #2 for my smallish cichlids and I also feed them the smallest size of Ken's soft n moist krill which is about the same size as the crumble.  Various foods from ken's that I've gotten and used are:

Soft 'n Moist krill
Cichlid floating pellets
4 mix sinking combo (egg pellets, brine shrimp pellets, earthworm pellets and veggie pellets)
Sinking veggie sticks
Sinking spirulina sticks
Sinking pellets with spirulina
Sinking pellets with brine shrimp

I also bought brine shrimp sticks and earthworm sticks but won't get them again after being advised to stay away from most stick foods.  I would still use the veggie sticks because I don't recall Ken's selling a pure veggie pellet and I like giving my cichlids the occasional veggies. :D
