can someone please identify this cichlid???
« on: January 22, 2005, 12:38:44 PM »
I have had this guy for over 4 yrs, he killed the female I bought him with, and he had to be separated from the convict in the tank.  He's like 4-5 inches long.
Thanks!
Mike

You may be right, GT and Dempseys have similar colorings and it's hard to tell with the pic.  Both get to be about the same size except in my opinion GT's are a bit more aggressive not to say that a dempsey is a wimp by any means.

The fish in question does look odd. The face shape and marking on the face resemble a Green Terror, but the body shape and body coloring looks like Dempsey.

Has anybody ever heard of JDs and GTs cross breeding? That's what this looks like to me. :-\

I don't know but I have seen allot of JD's that look like GT's depending on light.  Blueice- the reason that the two comparisons that you used are good examples of each breed.

To me,  It's definitely a crossbreed, but between, which 2 fish, I'm not certain. I'm only taking a guess here, but I want you guys to look at this.

The top picture, kind of has a little bit of Salvani in him and the bottom looks a littole JD or GT.  So I'm Thinking, Salvani/JD or GT. What do you guys think?  When the1st picture hit me.  It just said Salvani right away. I know, I'm probably wrong, but who knows, LOL

Definitely a hybrid . Certainly looks like it's got some GT to it, but what else might be in the mix... no clue.  :-X

Like some stated above, its DEFINATELY a hybrid. Looks like its got some GT in there and it and looks to be mixed with dempsey, but hard to tell.

It says the fish is 4 yrs old and only 4-5 inches...No way it could be a mix of GT and dempsey or it would be much much larger.
I also thought I saw acara and/or salvini in there somewhere.
