Its unequivocally 100% male salvini, in my opinion.

I also agree with Freaky Jason, the liklihood of a salvini breeding with an aequiden of any species is so low its not worth mentioning. The possibility of a spawn resulting in viable offspring is even lower(if not impossible).

BobTheFish: Its too bad you gave up on them based on their coloration. Its definitely true that the real bright yellows are breeding dress, but in my opinion their coloration is about the most boring thing about them. Very, very cool fish to keep in my opinion.  O0

the mouth is shaped wrong and there are too many spots on the face to be a pure salvini, imo.  O0

Ill agree the mouth is wrong, but this is also the first salvini ive seen with a curved stripe like that. Its almost like someone put the fish in a vise and squeezed it horizontally. Im thinking either stunting or excessive line breeding as more likely the causes of the irregularities. Some salvinis seem to have more facial markings than others, so I dont know if id consider that a clue or not.

Its not the typical salvini look, granted. But I still dont think its a hybrid. Theres too much salvini and not enough anything else.  8)

I have had this guy for over 4 yrs, he killed the female I bought him with, and he had to be separated from the convict in the tank.  He's like 4-5 inches long.
Thanks!
Mike

Just my opinion but nothing about that fish says acara or even aequiden. Its body shape is completely wrong. I maintain, its 100% salvini.   8)

Here are a couple of my male sal.
