Anyone know a good source for zebra plecos?  ive heard that they have stop exportation of em, so there only availible from current stock or private breeders. i would love to find one, at a reasonable cost though.

I don't know of any breeders off hand, but, I don't know what you consider to be a "reasonable" price. The cheapest I have ever seen them being sold for is $80 each.

I would love to get some a breed them, but, I don't have several hundred dollars to spend on only a few fish.

To give you an idea on how rare they are, I have never in my lifetime, seen one at a LFS.

I know for certain, you'd have to order one of them, but they are extremely expensive, just so you know ahead of time. I too though,  would absolutely, love to have one.

My LFS has had some over the years.

The last time they had some in, they had a group of about 15 selling for $125 each. All were sold within a few days.

Riverwonders.com - has some (they ship) right now for $115.00ea

yeah, sometimes they will work with ya, maybe store credit or something. the pets supplies plus here will replace your fiish for you just as long as your water is right. they test it for you and if its not right, they will let you make it right and THEN give you your fish. pretty nice of them.
but i guess thats the diference from a corprate chain store to a independent dealer.

You'd be surprised what kind of money people put out for fish.  Look at Discus and Salt water owners.

Plecos are awesome and the fancy ones are stunningly beautiful.  I've seen some zebra plecos at a lfs here and the prices you all have mentioned are about right for my area as well.  I've had a gold nugget pleco that was very beautiful but my favorite is either the zebra or the royal pleco.  My lfs had one called an Arabesque that was very nice....fancy plecos are just expensive but worth it to some of us.  If they could be bred in tank conditions that would help bring the costs down.

Zebras are easily bred in home aquariums and they're still expensive as hell.
