bgk and turquoise sevrumes
« on: January 30, 2005, 03:38:29 PM »
Hello all.First an update. My parent cons are doing fine in their 55 gallon home, but no new fry yet. Now my husband has went on a bgk kick!  :o He has just bought a small one and put it in the tank with my sevrumes. Will this be a problem for either or.It has been in with them for 1 day now and so far so good. The sevrumes are really greedy! :) We have to hand feed the knife or it won't get nothing. Also I read on 1 post that 2 bgk could be in the same tank.............  :'( that was false...atleast for us.the bigger one attacked the smaller 1 so we had to separate them again.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of keeping BGK's with cichlids, they tend to be just a little too boisterous and aggressive.  I lost mine to an overly aggressive catfish, so I tend to err on the side of caution.  Which post did you read that said it was ok to have two in the same tank?  Was it here on World Ccichlids?  Most knifefish can't stand their own kind and will fight, usually to the death, over territory.  They even usually hate other species of knifefish  :(  You'll probably have to contiune to hand feed the BGK, he'sll never be really confident or aggressive enough to compete with the cichlids for food.

A buddy of mine had a Black Ghost knife in with a Clown knife and lost him after about 3 weeks do to aggression and not getting enough food. You have to be very careful when choosing tankmates for them.

No Tracey,I didn't read it on this sit.So far everything I've read on this site has been true to a certain extent.Needless to say I will not visit the other sit because we almost lost 1 bgk.We are keeping a close eye on them and we are playing the move by ear if we have to.I definitely don't want nothing to happen to either one especially my sevrumes.
