I love that idea with the pair of Sevs and the Firemouth.  Columbian Tetras are very cool looking fish, so I also think thats a good idea to work.

You should be oK, but as stated above cons breeding could be a big issue. They get very territorial when they breed and they breed all the time

When I tried sevs and cons the sevs couldn't hold thier own they were too passive.

Cons are tough little buggers.  They wil stand up to anything.  As far as the Severums go, for the most part they are peaceful, but you do get some that are quite fiesty.  I use to have a pair of T.Severums, and they both did pretty well defending themselves and their territory against the JD. Firemoth and Oscar.

I have been watching the behaviour of one of my pairs of Green Sev's gradually change over the past year.  When I first got them they were literally scared of their own shadows    I honestly thought I'd never seen a wimpier cichlid in my life.  Now, a little over a year later, its a whole different story.  The pair of them will happily take on my 11" rto and chase her back across the tank away from their corner.  They'll never go out of their way to pick a fight, but they sure son't take no crap from anyone if someone comes looking for it.

LOL, that's funny you said that Tracey, because that's exactly what my old pair use to do, whenever the Oscar or JD  tried to go into their territory.  Severums do pretty well for themselves. They are the one fish I wish I had, besides my own right now.
