RIP my lil bushy nose pleco
« on: April 03, 2005, 04:49:16 PM »
i found the remains of my bushy earlier today, looks like he was taken apart pretty good. got a funny feeling the striped rapheal got ahold of him. dont know why, but i do.

he is survived by  my chocolate zebra pleco, and my albino pleco. services will be held at 4:30 at the upstairs bathroom.:-[

he was loved and will be missed :(

Sorry to hear that Eric. I'm a little surprised, because usually Striped Raphel's aren't aggressive at all.

so was I, they will eat most things that fit in the mouth but do not go attacking things

thats why I asked about sizes.

i've had the worst luck with plecos :-[ (at least the pricey ones)

i've lost 3 'gold spot'( an orange seam, and 2 gold nuggets) plecos and now i lost the bushy nose. i really liked him too, he was real active and always eating. at least i still have my chocolate zebra and my albino, the only 'fancy' ones i've kept alive.

Don't be fooled by that whole "sitting in a corner, not bothering nobody" attitude of Raphaels, it's a pack of lies  ;D  These catfish are predators and they are aggressive.  Not only wll they happily and successfully defend themselves against larger cichlids, they are also extremely good hunters.  They are territorial fish that don't like to share their space with other bottom dwellers or anything else that they may consider a potential competitor for food.  I have seen numerous fights between my 6" Striped Raphael and my 11" Albino Sailfin, and despite the size difference they are pretty evenly matched

wow!! Thats something I will need to look out for.
Never seen a raf attack anything and my last one was out a lot, but my last tank only had the raf as a bottom feeder so that may be why I did not have any problems, but this time I have a raf, pleco and pictus.
I have seen my pictus swim into raf hide out to getting food with no problem but pictus is 4"  and raf is small yet at 2"

I will keep a look out, thanks Tracey
