Did you get any pics of the fish market in Hong Kong?  Sounds a little inhumane the way they sell the fishes.

No I didn't, but I did get some pretty good ones of Ocean Park in Hong Kong. There was nothing really worth taking a picture of at the fish market just super crowded tanks and all kinds of fishies in baggies. Kind of sad really. If I ever find myself in Tokyo though, I will make sure to take pictures of some of the super cool rare stuff that they always get.

you'll find umbee to be a close match in size and aggressiveness to dovii aswell.

These 5 are also my top 5

 You need to move to Florida if you like SA cats and cichlids. In the Glades they have caught redtail cats and shovelnose infact cory cats are sometimes seen in shallow plant areas .
 Cichlids I myself have seen Convicts ( group "live" by a friends canal) saw one Oscar swim through mostly small non native tropicals like tetras . Non natives are a problem here as people buy them when they get big dump them in any canal,body of water and many doing great .
  firemouths were caught few yrs back by a lake .
  I must say it is neat to see them swim by "happy" and healthy though not PC to admit it .

Different fish have different personalities...I can only speak from my 40 years of collecting big aggressive cichlids...I currently own a very large deep water red male Dovii



Some very large Butticoferi (sp?) butter tilapia.



but the toughest I've ever owned is this midas (honestly 16 inches)....he will run my large dovii under rocks, my 17 inch umbie will try to go thru the glass to get away from him...but, this is not the "norm"..this guy has grown leaps and bounds larger than any other I've ever owned, he's the prettiest I've ever owned, and by far the meanest cichlid I've ever encountered..

 I read Midas were 'mean" as can be in an issue of TFH . What size tank do you keep him in ?  Great looking fish I just dont have the tank room for something that big .

Red Devil is without a doubt an extremely mean fish.  Not too colorful IMO either, LOL

I live in texas and have gone to lakes and seen a large perch and green terror going at it also a small shoal of silver hatchet fish in the shallows it was pretty odd
