World Record Catfish
« on: May 26, 2005, 02:43:21 PM »
I read about this guy that caught a world record blue catfish, weighing in around 124 lbs.  The guy made the choice to put the fish on display at a cabela'a outfitters store instead of releasing it.   I read today that the fish died while being transported.  Is this wrong or would you have done the same thing?

I probably would have released it, although, if the fish had lived it would have been cool to see it on display.

I'm just happy the guy didn't kill it and have it mounted.

They say the fish was well over thirty years old.

That's a shame, but like CK said, it was over 30 years old, so atleast it lived a long life.

I too, would have released it however.

That big bastard was caught just north of me :)

Rumor is the Missouri Gaming Commission and Cabela's basically 'took over' and decided what to do with the fish, not sure how much weight that carries though.

Wow that is a big fish! :o I think I would have put it back. No one would believe it was real even if it was mounted anyway.
I took you home, put you on the glass, I pulled off your wings and I laughed. I saw you change into a fly.

The fish has been kept alive and will be on display in a tank at the Cabela's Outfitter store in Kansas City, Kan., according to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Pruitt, 33, of Godfrey, told the (Peoria) Journal Star's outdoors columnist that he considered releasing the fish in the river but decided to donate it to Cabela's "because I thought it might be neat to give people a chance to see a fish that massive."
