Text book rule is generally 3-4cm (1.5-2 in)but they often breed much smaller so it is most likly what they are doing now..

yeah i expected thats what they were doing. When the fry come i suspect they will get gobbled up by the other fish.. right?  Or will i get a few babies that could grow up if they keep out of the other fish's territory. I may put them in my 29 gallon and use them as feeders. Ive heard most people use their convict fry this way.

when theres fry in the tank convicts tend to rule they scared of very little so you would get survivers. ive had my pair with oscars and the they didnt take anything 4rm them even if there were babies from the first batch they continued breeding like clock work every few weeks. convicts are small but distructive  >:D

...Its intensions like its motions are blur .....

Sometimes in the bag on the way home from the fish store. 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Survival of the randiest. >:D >:D
I took you home, put you on the glass, I pulled off your wings and I laughed. I saw you change into a fly.

there's no definate rule and it will depend on their conditions etc but it's a fair guess to say they would probally breed within a month or so. allthough saying that, it's not quite as easy as just putting them together and being guaranteed a result. i have seen some pairs not breed for months on end whilst others breed every few weeks.

I had eggs with 2.5 weeks....If you really want fry, check your water, make sure it is okay.  Also, pick up a small piece of slate and a 6 inch clay pot....Just lay the slate on your gravel, and put the clay pot on its side on the gravel.....They will probably use the pot to lay eggs in.....But may use the slate.  Make sure you rinse both very well, before putting in tank.  Do you see them making beds in the gravel yet????  Give them about a week or 2, and just check for eggs every day....I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised ....This is my first experience with Cichids, I have always had livebearers, but I think cichlids are much easier, at least convicts are....I would like to try and raise a few different types....Anybody, know another type of cichlid, that is fairly easy to breed????

Just have a good plan what you are going to do with the fry.....I think my 1 LFS can only handle so many convicts.....I have about 200 fry right now   :D

'Blue Acara' (from my experience thus far anyway)

or in the way of african cichlids, 'Kribensis' are often refered to as the african convict, as they are fairly frequent breeders.

texas breed pretty early and quickly ,you need a big tank . rainbow cichlids are very close to convicts in the breeding catagory and are about the same size as convicts.
