Thank you;

Aside from the color on the fin edges that looks like it.  Pretty cool and when he feels like cleaning glass he really works at it.  A couple of the other fish are testing him but he pretty much just ignores them and keeps on eating.  Still spending a lot of time hiding but I am glad to see he is comfortable about getting out when he wants to.
Really works their gravel also.  Been putting in some algie wafers but everything else eats them up before they hit bottom.

Nope, its not a Leopard Pleco.  What you've got there, Mike, is a good ole Sailfin Gibby, Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/loricari/pterygop/148_f.php  Hope you're ready for the size he might get to  :-\

 :) :)   So much for the privately owned very large and super stocked LFS.  I ask for a gibby and they said they had none... O0

Plecos can be really hard to ID, unless you're looking at one with very distinctive markings.  Gibby's will often look totally different when they first arrive at an lfs, their colour will get very faded and blotchy when under stress, even that distinct lighter stripe in between their large dark spots can be very hard to see.  Anyways, at least you ended up with the fish you wanted, even though it wasn't the fish you brought  ;D

Once again many thanks to all.   O0

A 100 gal is in the near future so Mr. Gibby will be getting a larger home.

I raised 5 sons so I figure I can deal with another poop machine  ;D  In some ways fish are like small kids.  Hungry all the time.  Always needing something changed.  Get sick for no apparent reason.  Thankfully they don't cry  :D

That is a cool looking Pleco you got there Mike. I have an Albino Gibby myself. They are awesomw Plecos, but the others are correct.  Be prepared for him to get huge.

Thanks OCP. That is the same pleco I have and asked Q's about. I am glad that you posted that pic. I thought it was a butterfly, but that pic is a dead ringer for mine. If they do grow that big, I think I will have to put him in the 100 gal.
They are hearty and can withstand all attacks made by my O's. Now, they don't even bother him. It's the other way around!  ???

Peace-

20 inches.. Hubba Hubba.  Now that is a big tank fish.  I bet it is a beauty.

I have noticed mine will mostly have very vivid coloration but sometimes it will go to a very dull grey.  Nothing else in the tank bothers it and the water parameters are good so I am guessing it is a normal thing for the SF to do like many other fish.  Been trying to get more pictures but it pretty much stays hidden while there is light.

It's pretty common for them to change color in terms of how intense it is.  Mine does the same thing and has since i've had him.  Nothing to worry about unless his color stays real drab ???  That could mean a problem.
