Zebra Obliquidens- Astatotilapia latifasciata

The Zebra Obliquiden cichlid from Lake Victoria and are reasonably aggressive but do get along with other fish .

 They get to about 12cm/5inches with the dominant male having all the colours and the females are usually silver with black bars.

The minimum tank for a "small" colony of females(3 to 5) and one male of these should be 190litres/50gallons with high ph of around 7.5-8(this can be achieved using crushed coral as a substrate) with a temperature of around 26-28c/78-82f.
 

They are maternal mouth brooders and being rare in the wild care should be taken not to cross breed them in captivity. The broods consist of  15-40 in numbers.

Insectivorous by nature, but will accept most types of food, flakes, worms etc.
