Scientific Name Chrysiptera cyanea

Common Names  Blue Damselfish, Blue Devil

Care Level Easy

Life span 5 - 6 years or longer

Size Up to 2.5 in. (6 cm)

pH 8.1 - 8.4

Temperature 75°F - 82°F (25°C - 28°C)

Specific Gravity 1.023 - 1.025

Carbonate Hardness (dKH) 8 - 12°

Origin / Habitat Indo-Pacific, Pacific ,Australia

Temperament / Behavior Can be very aggressive with other fish that invade there territory, will even chase and harass bigger fish when they are in the damsel territory.  It is advised to use caution when introducing other fish with damsel’s.  Will need to watch closely.   

Breeding / Mating / Reproduction Breeds in captivity

Tank Size 30 gallon minimum

Compatible Tank Mates When introducing tank mates do with caution.  Avoid keeping with other damsels but if you do, introduce at the same time so the aggression level is limited.  These fish need to be watched.

Diet / Fish Food Omnivorous, need a variety of food including flake, frozen and live foods.

Tank Region Will stay close to his territory and will defend it.

Gender Males do not have a black spot on the dorsal fin where females do.

General Information Beautiful fish that can add much activity to any tank as they protect their territory.  Very popular fish used to cycle new tanks.  They are very bold fish and can hold their own with fish much larger.  It is a good idea for these fish to be one of the last fish to be introduced to a system.
