First of all I'll say that this is by far the best site I've seen and been on for being user friendly. It's easy to navigate and keep up with what's been going on, and by far the friendliest But i just had a thought (although I'm sure you've looked in to it before now) on something you may be able to try. What about attracting a couple of sponsors who could advertise on the site? It would help pay for your costs as I understand it isn't free to keep the site going, and it might also fund a little prize or something for say, a quarter yearly competition or something? Although, the sponsors would need to be some sort of web based company to get the most out of advertising on a site where the members come from different countries. As I said, just a thought.

We have had adverts added before and the site looked a mess. To get sponsors I think we need to get the member numbers back up to near where they were before as the site is not active enough just now, getting better though

It has been quiet lately. I just wondered if having some sort of regular comp would maybe attract a few more members.

That would be cool. Bit of fun could go a long way to getting more people on board.

Maybe to keep it interesting, and to get more people involved we could have separate comps going on, i.e best African cichlid setup, American setup, community, and maybe a best planted aquarium or something. Then your best fish categories. All spread over the year and advertised on the greetings page as they're coming up to try and draw people in? And maybe have a "winners and runners up" board in each section with pics and stuff. Sorry, just brainstorming! I know this would take allot for you guys to do

we ran comps before and it was fine, but I don't think we have the numbers needed to run a decent comp long term.
the comps don't bring members to be honest, most new folk to forums come for help first.
when we get more posters we might try the competitions again

I see. That's a shame. Will be fun when we start having comps though, not that I expect to win any mind! Is there any way that us regular members can help advertise the site apart from just telling people by word of mouth? maybe we need to be a bit inventive.

You could always join in in trying to get this forum to the top of the pile on Aquarank. This usually draws in new members. http://www.worldcichlids.com/yabbse/index.php/board,51.0.html
